Twenty-five
At least twenty-five people were killed in Atlanta between the 22nd and the 26th of September, 1906. Sixteen of them have names. Nine do not, and the nine are given the same space here as the sixteen.
The record is thin because it was made thin. The city coroner issued ten death certificates. Atlanta’s official history reported twelve deaths. Two of these names sat in print from 1906 until 2023 before anyone counted them.
