Five Points is where the crowd gathered on the afternoon of 22 September, drawn by each new extra edition. The streetcar lines of the whole city crossed here. Mobs pulled Black passengers off the cars and beat and stabbed them in the street. By midnight the trolley lines had been shut down to stop the mob moving along them.
