The Henry W. Grady statue

Henry Grady was the editor of the Atlanta Constitution who coined and sold the “New South”. His statue has stood on Marietta Street since 1891.

On the night of 22 September 1906, members of the mob laid the bodies of three of their victims at its base.

On 18 September 2023, at this statue, the National Center for Civil and Human Rights read out the names of Marshall Carter, aged thirteen, and Stinson Ferguson, aged twenty-five — two victims who had gone uncounted for 117 years.
